arch linux adventure

couple days ago i wiped my computer and began the process of installing a brand new linux distro to replace ubuntu. after two days of installing + tweaking it's almost done. here is what the finished product looks like. arch linux + openbox/gnome + pypanel + thunar = my desktop. hit a couple snags in the road with audio and video but since then it's been smooth sailing. hopefully after a couple more days i'll be able to finish installing all the applications i need. just for taking those screenshots i need to install a small less than 1 MB command line program.

nba predictions 08-09

Eastern Conference

1.
Boston Celtics - Still the clear cut winner with the their big three. Loss of Posey won't be that evident until the playoffs unless Tony Allen steps up big. 63 games because the East got slightly better. I wish i could watch more of this team.

2.
Detroit Pistons - They subtracted Flip Saunders and added Michael Curry who preaches defense on an already defensive minded team. 59 games.

3.
Orlando Magic - With Dwight Howard's and Rashard Lewis' continual improvement i think they can make the push to the number 2 spot in the East. They added Mickael Pietrus which should help on the defensive side of things and J.J. Redick has found favor with their coach so all things are looking good for the magic. 51 games is all what they get. Plus Dwight Howard was my first pick for my fantasy basketball team, i'm counting on him.

4. Cleveland Cavaliers - The addition of Mo Williams will help take the weight of the Cavaliers' world off King James' but the rest of the team is still pretty bad i think. They need to dump Ben Wallace and find a PF who isn't 6 - 9. What's really ridiculous about this team is that Wallace makes more money than Lebron . The Bulls were dumb for giving someone so useless such a huge contract but the Cavs were even dumber for taking it on. 45 games for these guys because Lebron will again put up fantastic numbers to pick up the rest of the team.

5.
Philadelphia 76ers - Though never a fan of Elton Brand his addition to the 76ers will certainly help them win more games. 44 games.

6.
Toronto Raptors - The addition of Jermaine O'Neal will help this team stay exactly where they were a year ago in an improved Eastern conference. 42 games.

7. Chicago Bulls - The team that lost it's way last year with all those contract talks will find it's way back to the playoffs. Ben Gordon will pick up his game to find a better contract next summer. 41 games.

8. Washington Wizards - Same team as last year. Someone in that trifecta will get injured and the other two will pick up the slack to get them to the 8th spot. 40 games.

Western Conference

1. LA Lakers - With the return of Bynum they should only get better.
Right now they could have the best players 1 through 10 in terms of depth. But with another player seriously ready to help out how will Kobe react to another player chomping into his numbers? If all is good in Kobe's world then all will be good for the Lakers. 60 games and a return trip to the NBA finals.

2. New Orleans Hornets - With the addition of Posey they'll have that long armed defender that is much needed in the West as well as another veteran presence, with fresh championship experience, in the locker room. How Chris Paul didn't win the MVP last year is beyond me and if he continues to play the way he did last year he should be a lock right? 58 games.

3. Utah Jazz - With no major additions, they still get better with the growth of Ronnie Brewer at the 2 spot and now having a full season with Kyle Korver. 55 games.

4. Houston Rockets - If they can stay healthy then they can get to the Western Conference Finals and possibly even NBA finals with the amount of potential they have. 53 games.

5. San Antonio Spurs - With the lack of Manu Ginobili this team will again under perform until the All-Star break and then pick it up afterward. 52 games.

6. Phoenix Suns - Run and gun no more? Defensive mindedness? This will surely confuse Steve Nash and the rest of the Suns. 52 games

7. Portland Trailblazers - The addition of Oden will get this team to the playoffs and into many more in the future with a solid core of young guys. They are the Bulls of three years ago but in the west. 51 games.

8. Dallas Mavericks - They won 51 games and were bounced out in the first round of the playoffs last year. A full season of Kidd and Rick Carlisle should keep them in playoff contention but again going no where in the playoffs. 50 games.

I'll add playoff predictions down the line.
